3 Infantries, 1 Aviation Unit and 2 Military Helicopters - S/RES/1968 (2011)

S/RES/1968 mainly regulates and extends the period that there will be redeployed troops from the mission in Liberia (UNMIL) to the mission in the Ivory Coast (UNOCI). There is very little added to the deployment of troops, but only the call to extend the possibility of the redeployment while calling for the States that contribute with both military and police troops to do so in order to enable the deployment to take place.

Preamble

The document initially recalls its previous resolutions on the situation in the Ivory Coast and in the subregion, while also recalling the inter-mission cooperation agreements that serve to guide the exchanges that take place between UNMIL and UNOCI. The resolution further recalls the intention to consider authorizing the Secretary-General to redeploy further troops as may be needed from a mission to the other one. It still recalls the latter of the Secretary-General which stresses the essential role played by the assets deployed from Liberia to the Ivory Coast. It also reaffirms its full support to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the ground. It acts under the Chapter VII of the Charter.

Operative Clauses

The resolution extends up to three months the temporary redeployment from Liberia to the Ivory Coast of three infantry companies, one aviation unit of two military utility helicopters and three armed helicopters with crews. The resolution further requests the support of troop and police contributing countries to advance the deployment of personnel for the mission. It also decides to remain seized of the matter.
